SCOPE Study

The Study of Cardiovascular Outcomes in women with Preeclampsia using Echocardiography 

 

About 1 in 10 women will develop preeclampsia during their pregnancy. Women who develop preeclampsia prior to 37 weeks of pregnancy are at a higher risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and kidney problems later on in life. Specifically, African American women are at the highest risk for preeclampsia and the complications from it. Researchers will compare heart echos during and after pregnancy of African American women with and without preeclampsia to observe the differences in heart functioning.
